SPONTANEOUS POETRY ...

Just had a memory pop up as/in this poem.

so where were we then
you and i
hunkered down on the landing
or
perched on its edge
like fledglings

when the screaming stopped
and all fell silent
we trembled
not understanding
and afraid to be caught up
in the darkness
